Gridspertise reaches 100 million Smart Meters milestone
- The milestone covers a two-decade period in the production of smart meters with Gridspertise technology: beginning with Enel's initial manufacturing and massive roll-out of first-generation smart meters in the early 2000s, and extending to those manufactured by Gridspertise since its inception in September 2021.
- In conjunction with Gridspertise two years anniversary, this 100 million Smart Meter milestone is an occasion for the company to celebrate its heritage and to embrace the future, working to develop integrated digital solutions and services to address the increasing variability in energy supply and demand.
Gridspertise announces that it has reached a key milestone in manufacturing 100 million Smart Meters. The announcement comes in conjunction with the two years anniversary from the company official launch on September 23rd, 2021.
The company's strong foundation, rooted in Enel's robust legacy of over 20 years in operating distribution networks, is clearly evident in this accomplishment which serves as a testament to the reliability and trust that Gridspertise has established in the market.
The milestone covers a two-decade period in the production of smart meters with Gridspertise technology, beginning with Enel's initial development and massive roll-out of first-generation smart meters in the early 2000s, and extending to those manufactured under Gridspertise brand since its inception in September 2021. The 100 million smart meters have been delivered in Italy, Spain, Romania, Republic of San Marino, Malta, Brazil, Peru and Chile, addressing the local power markets needs and regulation.
Gridspertise’s metering offer goes beyond the mere supply of technology, including end to end advanced metering infrastructure as well as services, optimized according to DSOs evolving needs thanks to a field-proven experience in smart grids. Coming from large experience in massive rollout and grid digitalization, Gridspertise is uniquely positioned to understand DSO requirements in different regions and, coupling its in-depth market knowledge with technological capability and an open innovation approach, the Company has solidified its position as the partner of choice for DSOs worldwide: its overall offer is composed by a broad portfolio of devices, end-to-end cloud-edge platform solutions and services in the areas of metering and grid edge digitalization, network infrastructure digitalization, field operation digitalization
“The 100 million smart meters is a key milestone in our journey towards the new era of sustainable and reliable smart grids - said Robert Denda, CEO of Gridspertise - This important accomplishment reflects our solid background and stands as a demonstration of relentless dedication and expertise of our exceptional team. We have embraced innovative technologies and a commitment to sustainability, and it is through these principles that we keep working to develop integrated, interoperable and flexible digital solutions to address the increasing variability in energy supply and demand".
As the first smart meters aimed to digitalize readings of electricity consumption, providing benefits on billing and operations, today they are turning into intelligent sensors to tackle the increasing complexity of the grid. They facilitate a more active role of the customer in the energy market and encourage the penetration of distributed renewable sources in power grids.
Leveraging a long-term field experience in operating distribution networks around the globe, Gridspertise smart meters offer a wide range of value-added features in terms of reliability, cybersecurity and sustainability, providing benefits to the entire ecosystem of DSOs, grid users and final customers.
They help improve the performance of distribution networks around the world by enabling grid flexibility services and being adaptable to different communication protocols: Meters & More, G3-PLC, PRIME, DLMS; RF and cellular technology (LTE-M, NB-loT).
In Italy, where the first massive smart meter roll-out took place 20 years ago, the production of Gridspertise smart meters now embodies the principles of circular economy: by shredding the dismissed first-generation smart meters, their components are sorted and regenerated, to construct the plastic framework of the latest ones.
This 100 million Smart Meter milestone is an occasion for Gridspertise to celebrate its heritage and to embrace the future. As the world is still in the transition phase to large-scale integrated smart grids, Gridspertise next generation of smart meters will work together with other grid components and advanced integration software enabling the electrical grid to digitally adapt to a rapidly changing demand for electricity.
The company in fact, is introducing a new flexible and future-proof smart meter in its portfolio. Depending on customer needs and location, this device enables the exchange or adaptation of communication technology directly in field, allowing to choose the most appropriate solution among several communication protocols (including Hybrid PLC and RF, Cellular LTE and Cellular NB-IoT). This new smart meter is also interoperable with solutions from third party vendors, enabling backwards compatibility and integration with existing installations.
Gridspertise will celebrate the 100 million smart meters milestone and present its new metering offer during Enlit Europe 2023 in Paris.
